Here's a website that I recently discovered that is packed with recipes from home cooks around the world. Food52.com is the work of Amanda Hesser and Merrill Stubbs. Their unique plan has visitors submitting recipes on a different theme each week to the website. As the editors of the site, and accomplished cooks and writers themselves, they try out the recipes, and choose two that the community then votes on. The weekly recipe winners will end up in a Food52 cookbook. Cool idea, no?
Each week, new recipes are submitted to Food52.com. And WOW the range of foods and techniques are from simple to technical, but just a quick glance down the list of winners, I saw at least a dozen recipes I want to try. Like the winner for the Best Holiday Cookie: Figgy Pudding Butter Cookies, I swear I can smell them on the computer screen. Butter, rum and figs in a cookie drizzled with a spiced brandy glaze! I'm drooling. Of course there are simpler themes like best broccoli Recipe and Best Home Alone Meal.
I met Amanda a few years ago when she was talking about her then latest book, "Cooking For Mr. Latte" (WW Norton) a memoir of her courtship and eventual marriage to "Mr. Latte." So while I dig into this Figgy Pudding cookie recipe, why don't you enjoy some of these shows with Amanda from the Radio Kitchen Archives.
