What's That?
Valentine's Weekend in Dorrington
Feb. 18, 2010

The Dorrington Hotel Valentine's Day Entree

I had a fabulous time in Dorrington this past weekend!

Dorrington is a small village in the Sierra mountains on Hiway 4 on the way to Bear Valley Ski Resort. The hotel used to be a rest stop for the stage that would take passengers over Ebbets pass to the eastern Sierra. Now it is run by Marc Lanthier and a small dedicated staff, offering rooms in the hotel, a fine dining restaurant -- Restaraunt 1852, and a rustic lounge called "The Lube Room".

The weekend culminated in a Five-Course Valentine's Day Dinner. Here's what I served:

  • Seared scallops in a light red pepper coulis
  • Crepes filled with a mushroom leek duxelles, topped with a beet and cream sauce
  • Organic rabbit greens, cucumber, tomatoes, onions tossed with a red wine vinaigrette
  • House Favorite: "Big-Ass" shrimp and a 6oz filet mignon with bearnaise, organic snap peas and carrots and potato dauphinoise
  • Warmed chocolate bread pudding with a Port sabayon
  • Seared Scallops with a red pepper coulis Mushroom and Leek Filled Crepes with Beet Cream Sauce

Thanks to Marc, Amy, Miley, Rob, Rosalee, Bells, Tina, and anyone I'm forgetting for welcoming me and helping make it a wonderful weekend!

Now… What am I gonna cook up this weekend? Hmmmm.
